Pickle Night Dinner in aid of SCC
A message from S/m Jack Hawkins
Since leaving the Navy in 2000 after 32 years it has taken me time to settle into civvy street. I have recently felt the need to try and payback to the youngsters in the area some of the fun and experience that I had whilst serving. I have now joined the Sea Cadet Corps at Bedford who were in need of some support. The Officer Commanding CPO (SCC) Rough has revived the unit from 4 Cadets to over fifty ranging from Juniors aged 10 to 12 years old to cadets from 12 - 18. This is all voluntary and relies on fund raising to maintain its existance. To this end I am organising a Pickle Night Mess Dinner as a Fund Raiser to take the unit to a camp near Pompey in the Spring of 2010.
I would like to extend an invitation to any shipmates that would like to attend the dinner. It will be held at the Addison Centre in Kempston on Friday 24th October and I am trying to get 150 to attend for a 3 course dinner plus cheese board pre dinner drink and Port for the toasts inclusive at £25 per head. The tables will be of 8 to 10. The format will be as per Mess Dinner for guests and partners and Dispatches will be read out between courses. I hope this may be of interest of some of your members and if so please contact me by email at jack.hawkins123@btinternet.com or Home Tel 01234 870110 or Mob 07966 333314

A message from the Webmistress.
My name is Penelope (after the Pepperpot) Jarvis and I am your webmaster for the moment. I am a member of Henlow Branch. An associate member for about 24 years I joined the R.N.A with my father, Bill Jarvis who was a previous Vice President of Letchworth and Hitchin Branch. I have been a Standard Bearer for fourteen years and have had the honour of meeting many of you in that capacity.
I have three children and two disabled grandaughters who along with R.N.A., The Legion, Riding for the Disabled and the P.T.A. of Woolgrove Special School keep me pretty busy. I have a love for our Royal Navy, instilled in all the family by my dad, which makes serving the R.N.A the priority and honour that it is.
We hope that setting up this website will be usefull to you all, particularly those small branches that become quite isolated from the group so that they will feel included in what is going on in the area. To do this I need your help. Any news or forthcoming events, potted biographies of your branches and members, photographs of the things you do, letting me know when shipmates Cross the Bar (so that we can support you and their families), Eulogies from the funeral so we can know them a little and anything else you would like on the site please get in touch.
At the moment send to James (who is setting up the site for us) via the contact page or to me at webmistress@rna6.com. Or if you find it easier initially my home address is 14, Cavalier Court, Ingleside Drive, Stevenage, Herts, SG1 4RD my telephone 01438 226811 mobile 07941470080. Remember we can be advertising your events within days.
In conclusion may I wish you all a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS (or to those of my persuasion Happy Channukah) and to you all a VERY HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR
